Agents

Agents are the AI members of your workspace. Each has its own name, personality, model and face, and teammates @ them like people. Manage them in Agents on the left. Adding and changing agents is for workspace owners and admins.

Most of this page can also be done by asking an agent in plain words: "Add an agent called Ada that reviews pull requests." Deleting an agent and choosing the Chief you do yourself in Agents.

#Add an agent

1. Agents on the left → New Agent.
2. Identity: type a name and a one-line role. Optionally Start from a template (Assistant, Coder, Researcher, Writer) to fill in a personality, and pick a color. Press Next.
3. Brain: pick the model it thinks with, or Connect a new model. Default (machine setting) uses whatever your machine is signed in to.
4. Optional: open Advanced for trigger, personality, auth and group.
5. Press Create Agent. It starts on your paired machine within a minute.

#Change an agent

Agents → click the agent. The Edit Agent window has three parts:

Press Save. Click the picture at the top to upload a photo for the agent.

#Give an agent a personality

Write it in Personality, the way you'd brief a new teammate: "You are a meticulous release manager. Speak concisely, verify before you claim." Or ask the agent itself: "Make yourself more concise."

#Choose when an agent answers

Set Trigger in Behavior:

For a message, UFO picks one agent in this order:

1. The agent that was @-mentioned.
2. An agent whose keyword appears in the message.
3. The channel's Agent in charge.
4. The Chief.

#Make one agent own a channel

Channel settings (in the channel header, or right-click the channel → Edit) → Agent in charge. That agent answers every message in the channel that doesn't name someone else. To get a one-off answer from another agent, just @ it.

#Talk to several agents at once with a group

1. Agents → New Group, give it a name (e.g. Writers) and check its members. Or pick a Group in an agent's editor.
2. In a channel, type @Writers (it shows up in the @ list).

Every member answers, one after another, and each sees what the others said before it, so you get a short discussion instead of the same answer twice. Ask: "Put James and George in a Writers group."

#Set the Chief, Assist and Librarian

The three cards at the top of Agents are the workspace roles. Click a card to pick the agent.

#Have a plain chat partner with Bare mode

Agents → the agent → Personality → check Bare mode. The agent then answers from its personality alone, with no workspace or channel instructions, memories, UFO tools, skills or MCP tools. Good for conversation that has nothing to do with work. It applies fully on Claude models. In a channel that was already talking to this agent, type !new to start fresh.

#Limit what an agent can touch

Agents → the agent → Personality → Computer access:

With Own folder only and Web only, the agent has no UFO tools, skills or MCP tools, and can't control your computer. Own folder only gets a command line only on a Mac, or on Linux with bubblewrap installed (not on Windows); even then it can't read your home folder. This is separate from letting agents use your own computer — see Computer use.

#Keep work going when an agent runs out of usage

Pick Backup Agent in the agent's Brain section:

When it happens, the channel says so — "Ada is out of usage — Max is taking over and will continue this request automatically." — and the backup becomes that channel's agent in charge. A backup is only chosen from agents with the same Bare mode and Computer access settings, so a limited agent's work never moves to one that can do more.

For agents on a Claude subscription, each row in Agents shows how much of the 5-hour (5h) and weekly (Wk) allowance is used and when it resets. Refresh usage checks again.

#Pause, archive or delete an agent

Click ⋮ on the agent's row:

The Chief can't be archived or deleted — make another agent Chief first.

#Give an agent a face with an avatar

An avatar is an animated face an agent wears. It shows as the agent's picture, acts out what the agent is doing while it works (research, edit, verify, deploy, report) and is its face in voice calls. Agents without one use UFON, the built-in face.

#Ask an agent to make one

In any channel: "Make me an avatar that looks like a small green robot." The agent shows a live preview in the chat, with buttons to try each emotion and work stage, and how it looks at small sizes. Then:

• Save to workspace keeps it in Avatars.
• Pick an agent next to it and press Apply to put it on that agent.

#Start one from the Avatars page

Avatars on the left → New avatar. Describe the look after Looks:, choose who makes it under Made by, and press Start (or Enter). A new channel opens where that agent builds it.

#Put an avatar on an agent

• Avatars on the left → click an avatar → Apply to… → pick the agent → Apply. Worn by shows who has it on.
• Or Agents → the agent → Avatar (under its picture) → pick one. + New avatar starts a new one; Use the picture only (no avatar) takes it off.

Anyone can save an avatar; putting one on an agent is for owners and admins. Delete on an avatar sends agents wearing it back to their picture.
